Subject: If 41 is the new 21 then is 50 the new 30?

Hello,

This week I am back at NFL training camp.  And in the news...lots of inspiration.

Brett Favre coming back at age 38.

And big news was Basketball Hall of Famer, Nancy Lieberman's comeback at age 50 in the WNBA.

Meanwhile I saw a commercial about Dara Torres which stated: "41 is the new 21."

The two women's comebacks have touted nothing but favorable applause and inspiration.  As they should.

Leaves me to ask the question though, if 41 is the new 21 does that mean we can assume from Nancy's comeback that 50 is the new 30?

I think so.  I think if you look around you, there are inspiring athletes of all ages, sizes and shapes.  Some of them are more famous than others, true.  But every day there are new stories about amazing people accomplishing great feats.

Just the other day I read about a breast cancer survivor who was running her first marathon along with another woman.  They are both in their sixties and have never been competitive athletes in their lives.

Last year, Herb Schon, joined a group cross country bike ride at the age of 75.  He said, "senior is a state of mind" and often means, "wiser, better and stronger."

He is right. And so are Brett Favre, Dara Torres and Nancy Lieberman.  You are only limited by what you think you can...or can't do.

Who knows, you might be someone's inspiration.  Whether it's a single person like your best friend, a club in your area or an entire nation.

My experience tells me as we age we do get stronger, wiser and better.

How can you inspire someone?  How can you help someone?

It is as simple as sharing your personal fitness goal and what you are doing to achieve it...setting a new challenging goal for yourself and asking a friend to do the same...or  sharing www.mikeryanfitness.com and the Mike Ryan weekly fitness emails.

With Healthy Regards,
